BirdNest Chair

There are two stories here. The first is the origin of this piece, which was carved from a spruce tree in our yard that blew over in a storm. The second story is, in the previous year, it had a Crow's nest at the very top from which I watched a (big) Baby Crow take its first flight....which was not very graceful as it bounced from one padded limb to another, buffering its fall to the ground. All was well though, as the parents called to the baby from the woods. Baby Crow followed the voices, and the family was reunited.

The second story is about how the BirdNest became a Chair. It was around the time when Baby Crow fledged, I had been doing drawings of Sitting Vessels. It seemed I had a personal desire to sit more. I wanted to sit in order to create a still space, quiet and away from the craziness of the world. The BirdNest Chair is a step towards that that objective.
