“Ancient One”
I was bringing wood in from the woodshed, and a split piece of maple caught my attention. I brought it into my studio and it lived there until the form spoke clearly to me. I did not do much to the wood other than to stabilize loose parts, put on an oil stain, and apply the gold leaf to what had become a figure. Feeling that this Spirit of the Woods had more to say, I left it alone for a time, and sure enough, there was more to the story. An Acorn fell into place adding an entirely new dimension and meaning to the piece.
